The ongoing dispute between Hanuma Vihari and the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has escalated a dramatic turn, with the state organization initiating an inquiry against the senior batsman.
Vihari, alleging mistreatment by the ACA, announced his decision to refrain from representing Andhra after the conclusion of their Ranji Trophy season, which ended in defeat.
He also criticized a fellow reserve player, accusing him of seeking intervention from his father, a politician, following an incident where Vihari reprimanded him during a match. ACA responded, stating they had received a complaint against Vihari from a junior player.
Vihari shared his statement signed by other Andhra squad members, on his social media ‘X’ with the remark: “The entire team is aware of the situation.” He expressed disappointment, stating, “The association expects players to obey their commands unquestioningly, treating players as mere tools. I have resolved never to represent Andhra again, as it has shattered my self-respect.”
In response to Vihari’s claims, ACA released a statement, revealing that Vihari had verbally abused a specific player during the Bengal Ranji game in front of witnesses. The aggrieved player lodged a formal complaint with ACA.
ACA clarified the captaincy change, explaining that a new captaincy arrangement was proposed in January 2024 due to Vihari’s intermittent availability as a national prospect. Vihari acknowledged this decision, leading to Ricky Bhui’s appointment as the new captain.
Additionally, ACA disclosed receiving complaints from Vihari’s teammates, support staff, and officials regarding his use of offensive language and disrespectful behavior.
The association accused Vihari of repeatedly seeking a No Objection Certificate to join other state teams but retracting his decision later. ACA announced their intention to thoroughly investigate all grievances.
