Sextortion Gang Bused For Extorting Delhi-Based Doctor, Two Arrested

NEW DELHI: Two members of a sextortion gang were arrested on the charges of extorting money from a Delhi-based doctor.

Mehfuz,39, and his brother Aamir Khan,26, residents of Rajasthan were arrested from their hideout in Mewat on a police team raid. A manhunt is on to nab other gang members, police said on Friday.

The gang member extorted money from the victim after recording two fabricated videos of him in a compromising position during a WhatsApp video call.

The gang extorted a total of Rs 8.60 lakh from him on multiple transactions from last year on the pretext of not releasing the videos on social media and to his family members and relatives. Annoying being regularly blackmailed, the doctor later approached the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police.

“We have so far found that the gang is involved in 25 similar cyber fraud cases where they duped and extorted the victims using the same modus operandi. Efforts are on to nab other gang members,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, East, Apoorva Gupta said.

 “The Doctor 71, was targeted by the gang members on July 15. He received a video call and when he answered it, there was a girl in a compromising position on the other side. She lured the victim while talking to him. The gang made a video following which the accused persons started threatening calls to leak the video if he refused to give them money,” the DCP said.

Seven mobile phones used in the commission of crime were recovered from the accused persons’ possession on.
