India calls developments in Bangladesh ‘deplorable’, requests to ensure safety of Hindus, other minorities

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed serious concern and resentment over the recent incidents of communal atrocities on Hindu community in Bangladesh. The recent incident of hurling petrol bomb inside a Durga Puja pandal in Tanti Bazar has not only raised fresh question ‘Are Hindus safe in Bangladesh?’ but infused scare among the minority community residing in Bangladesh.

Apart from this incident Bangladesh has witnessed over 35 cases of communal hatred duri9ng the recent Durga Puja celebrations. It has raised a question mark on the tall claims of protecting the minority community by the Mohammad Yunus caretaker government. 17 persons have been arrested and about a dozen cases have been registered.

On Saturday, the MEA expressed serious concern over the safety and security of the minority community in Bangladesh, “The recent incidents have been extremely “deplorable.” The MEA urged the Bangladesh government to ensure “safety and security of Hindus and all minorities.

These developments came a day after it was discovered that a hand-crafted golden mukut (crown) gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was stolen from a Hindu temple in Bangladesh’s southwestern Satkhira district amid Durga Puja celebrations, a theft over which India expressed concern.

The MEA said, “We call upon the Government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities and their places of worship, especially during this auspicious festival time.”
