The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to field party leader Navya Haridas in Wayanad Lok Sabha by-polls, against Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, also the party general secretary.

Priayanka Gandhi Vadra will make her electoral debut.

The Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency had fall vacant after Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament from Wayanad, was disqualified from Parliament after he was sentenced to a two-year jail term in a criminal defamation case. The Lok Sabha secretariat issued a notification disqualifying Gandhi as a member of the Lower House of Parliament following his conviction by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case.

Who is Navya Haridas?

Navya Haridas is the general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Manch (BJMM), the trade union wing of BJP.

She is mechanical engineer with a B-Tech degree from KMCT Engineering College, Calicut University.

A two-time councilor in the Kozhikode Corporation and the Mahila Morcha State General Secretary in the BJP.

According to her affidavit disclosing her assets, Navya Haridas owns assets worth ₹1,29,56,264 and has a total liability of ₹1,64,978, as per the organization.

By-polls for the Lok Sabha seat will take place on November 13 and the result will be declared on November 23.
