Cyclone Dana Updates: Severe rainfall ahead of landfall later today, NDRF, SDRF, Coastal Guards on alert

Heavy rainfall is taking across coastal areas in Odisha and West Bengal. The landfall of cyclone Dana is expected between the evening of 24th and morning of 25th October. Gusting winds with high velocity blowing ahead of the landfall. The cyclone is expected to move towards the North West and intensify at Bay of Bengal. The landfall is expected to take place at Dhamara, between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port. The landfall will bring severe devastation according to weather experts.

Cyclone Dana is fast approaching fast towards Odisha coast line. The functioning of the Orissa High Court, Biju Patnaik International Airport, ports at Paradip and Dhamara, all educational institutions and others, remain suspended. Schools have been shut.

Odisha coastal line have been vacated. Millions of people living in these areas have been evacuated. In West Bengal, eviction of people living across the coastal lines is taking place at war footing. According to officials, over 800 relief camps have been set up. “We have evacuated over 6000 people to safe location since yesterday,” informed an official associated with evacuation work. The fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

Over 300 trains including long distance as well as local or EMU trains have been cancelled. According to officials, more trains commuting on Eastern Railway section will be cancelled by evening today. Flights too stands suspended from 6 pm today till 9 am on Friday.

As per the notification issued by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), The impact of cyclone Dana will be more across Juagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts of Odisha and wind velocity will reach around 100-120 kmph. Heavy to very heavy rainfall will take place in low-lying areas in Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts.

The MeT department has also issued advisory for the locals residing across North and South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly. These places will have heavy to very heavy rainfall. Stay tuned for more updates on cyclone Dana.
