Terror attacks have become a regular feature in Jammu and Kashmir for the fast few weeks. National Conference leader Dr Farooq Abdullah may say that Indian Army should not kill the terrorists and catch alive. Dr Abdullah even saw some “agencies” working to malign the Omar government. The fact is during these encounters between the fringe elements and Indian Army, most of times soldiers have to eliminate the terrorists in self defence.
On Tuesday, an encounter broke out in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces cordoned off the area. There was a fierce exchange of firing from both the sides. The terrorists had taken shelter in the dense forests.
“Based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists in general area Kaitsan forest, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF in general area Chuntawadi Kaitsan, Bandipora. Contact was established and firefight ensued. Operation is in progress,” read an update from the Chinar Corps handle on X.
The Indian Army killed one unidentified terrorist in a gunfight between the security forces and terrorists in J&K’s Bandipora district. Bandipora became the target of the terrorists a few days ago when they had carried an attack on the soldiers.
Two local policemen and two CRPF troopers were injured in the Khanyar gunfight.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has given clear orders to police and other security forces to go after terrorists, their harbourers, sympathisers and overground workers (OGWs).
The question people are asking now is, if the black old days of insurgency are back in the valley?
