NEW DELHI: BJP leader Dr Vijay Jolly slammed the sitting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator, Dinesh Mohania, for his alleged failure to improve infrastructure in Sangam Vihar, particularly highlighting the recent rain calamity on Friday. Jolly accused Mohania of neglecting his promises and showing non-cooperation in addressing the pressing issues faced by the constituency over the past decade.
In the aftermath of the rain, Jolly highlighted the numerous infrastructural challenges plaguing Sangam Vihar, one of the largest unauthorised colonies in Delhi. He pointed out that despite repeated assurances from Mohania, residents continue to suffer from inadequate, pathetic road conditions, poor drainage systems, and lack of basic amenities, which were starkly evident during the recent rainfall.
“Promises were made, but none were kept. The people of Sangam Vihar have been waiting for 10 years for the promised development, but all they have received are excuses,” Jolly said. “The current state of infrastructure is pathetic and unacceptable. It reflects a complete failure on the part of the sitting AAP legislator, especially in light of the recent flooding.”
Jolly further emphasized the urgent need for better infrastructure to improve the quality of life for Sangam Vihar residents. He urged immediate action to address the area’s issues and called for greater accountability from elected representatives.
The criticism comes amid growing frustration among Sangam Vihar residents, who have frequently complained about the lack of progress in their area. Many residents echo Jolly’s sentiments, expressing disappointment over unfulfilled promises and deteriorating living conditions, which were exacerbated by the Friday rain calamity.
In response to the allegations, AAP has defended its efforts in Sangam Vihar, claiming that significant work has been done despite various challenges. However, the persistent issues and public dissatisfaction suggest that much remains to be done.
The debate over infrastructure in Sangam Vihar highlights the broader challenge of urban development in Delhi, where rapid growth and population pressures often outpace the provision of essential services. As political leaders from different parties weigh in, the focus remains on finding sustainable solutions to improve the living standards for all residents.
As the political tussle continues, the residents of Sangam Vihar hope for tangible improvements and a break from the cycle of unfulfilled promises, particularly as they recover from the recent devastating rainfall.
Meanwhile on Friday, heavy rainfall and winds wreaked havoc in New Delhi, causing widespread disruption. The Indira Gandhi International Airport saw part of its roof collapse, resulting in one fatality and eight injuries, and flights from the domestic terminal were significantly disrupted. The city, home to 20 million people, received 228.1 mm of rainfall at its main Safdarjung weather station in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am, marking a 266% departure from normal levels. The deluge led to flooded streets, severe traffic snarls, and waterlogged roads connecting to the airport, throwing daily life out of gear.
