Chief Election Commissioner Assures Transparency in 2024 Parliamentary Election

Patna: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said on Wednesday that the Election Commission is fully prepared and committed to conducting the parliamentary election in 2024 while maintaining transparency at all levels.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) also mentioned that the Election Commission would take all necessary steps to conduct free and inducement-free elections. He emphasized that political parties and their candidates would be informed about the transportation of EVM machines to ensure hundred percent transparency.

“I urge all voters to come and participate in the festival of democracy. Casting votes is the fundamental right of every citizen. We are fully prepared to conduct the 2024 Parliamentary election and state elections in Odisha. Before using the EVMs in polling at various constituencies, we have marked the numbers on EVMs and informed the contesting candidates and their parties,” stated the CEC.

However, Kumar expressed his concern over the poor voter turnout in the previous election, stating that the voter turnout in the Lok Sabha poll was only 57.33 per cent, which was less than 10 per cent of the national average. He emphasized that the electoral roll gender ratio has been continuously increasing.

All nodal central agencies have been directed to keep a close eye on national and international borders to curb the transport of cash and ensure inducement-free polling. The poll panel will act following the directives of the Supreme Court regarding the electoral bonds scheme.
