NEW DELHI: The Former South African fast bowler Shabnim Ismail, playing for Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League, has created history by bowling the fastest delivery ever seen in women’s cricket.
During a match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Ismail unleashed a lightning-fast delivery that clocked an incredible speed of 132.1km/h (82.08mph). This surpassed the 130km/h mark for the first time in women’s cricket, leaving former Australian captain Meg Lanning struggling to cope as the ball crashed into her pad.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed Ismail’s record-breaking feat, highlighting its significance for the sport. This achievement showcased Ismail’s remarkable progression, having previously bowled at speeds of 128km/h (79.54mph) in ICC Women’s T20 World Cups and 127km/h in the recent ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
Despite her stellar performance, Ismail’s efforts couldn’t turn the tide in Mumbai Indians’ favor. Despite taking one wicket, she conceded 46 runs from her four overs. Mumbai Indians ultimately suffered a 29-run defeat against Delhi Capitals, overshadowing Ismail’s remarkable display on the field.
