Political catfights at its helm in Delhi over stubble burning or ‘parali’ burning causing the poor air quality that has transformed the city into a gas chamber. This year the air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi has gone very poor much early as compared to previous years. One of the predominant reasons being the burning of stubble across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.
On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi at a Press conference had hit out the Centre. She accused the Centre of failing to act and practicing “politics on pollution” after the national capital region woke this morning choking under a thick layer of toxic smog and aur quality index of 481 – the worst this season so far.
Delhi CM mentioned the name of UP, Rajasthan but played political diplomacy on Punjab and said, “Why can’t other states stop stubble burning when ‘Punjab’ could stop burning stubble?” Stubble burning continues unabated across Punjab and Haryana.
The problem with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is they will never accept that stubble burring is still creating menace in Punjab just because AAP government is in the state. Same in the case of Haryana, where stubble are being burnt in bulk but the new Chief Minister after assuming office said people is Haryana should be awarded for not only not burning the stubble but also adhereing to Supreme Court diktat on the stubble burning.
The Aam Aadmi Party leader blamed farm fires in neighbouring states. “Other cities in northern India are also polluted… what is the centre doing? Only Punjab has reduced stubble burning. Why doesn’t centre act against others?” said Atishi.
Political parties are busy engaging in allegations and counter allegations, nobody is actually concerned about the poor air quality that has transformed Delhi into a gas chamber.
