Farmer over ‘Shabby attire’ Denied Metro Access in Bengaluru Sparks Outcry, Staff sacked

Bengaluru: In a brazen incident reported, a farmer was refused entry by security personnel into the Namma Metro premises due to his shabby attire, triggering widespread outrage on social media and resulting in the dismissal of a security supervisor involved in the incident.

Despite possessing a valid ticket, the farmer, dressed in a white shirt and carrying a bundle of clothes on his head, was halted at the security checkpoint located at the Rajajinagar metro station. The security personnel slammed the victim as not suitable for travel in his attire.

A video capturing the encounter quickly gained attraction on social media platforms, showing the farmer, who spoke Hindi, standing near the luggage scanner as Karthik C Airani questioned the staff about their decision.

In a statement released on X on Monday, the BMRCL stated

“Namma Metro is an inclusive public transport. The Rajajinagar incident was investigated, and the services of the security supervisor have been terminated with immediate effects. BMRCL regrets the inconvenience caused to the passenger.”
