Mumbai: India is gearing up to launch its advanced competitor to ChatGPT, named Hanooman, inspired by the Hindu god from the epic Ramayana. This initiative is led by Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), signalling a significant leap forward in artificial intelligence technology within the country.
Hanooman, the name inspired by lord ‘Hanuman’ from the epic Ramayana, is not just a project of RIL; it also has the backing of leading engineering institutions across India. Scheduled for an official launch in March, Hanooman promises to bring about transformative changes across various sectors.
According to G Krishna Reddy, a tech official involved in the project, Hanooman will support multiple local languages and offer essential services in areas such as healthcare, governance, financial services, and education. With compatibility in 11 languages, it aims to provide seamless experiences and crucial information to users.
A standout feature of Hanooman is its speech-to-text capability, which is expected to greatly enhance user interaction. Reliance Jio, a major player in this endeavor, is also working on developing Jio Brain, a platform aimed at harnessing AI across its extensive subscriber base of approximately 450 million users.
The launch of Hanooman represents a significant milestone for India in the global AI landscape and is expected to propel the nation into a leadership position in this field.
