Is insurgency back in the valley is the question many are asking after the terror attack that killed two soldiers and two civilian porters. The Omar Abdullah government has come to power in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress decided to support the state government from outside over the seat sharing dispute. Attack like this barely a week after new government came to power is bound to churn blame game politics.

J&K Chief Minister Omara Abdullah wrote on X.

“Very unfortunate news about the attack on the army vehicles in Bota Pathri area of north Kashmir which has resulted in some casualties and injuries. This recent spate of attacks in Kashmir is a matter of serious concern. I condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms and send my condolences to the loved ones of the people, who lost their lives. I also pray that (the) injured make a complete and swift recovery.”

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah said, “Jammu and Kashmir will never be a part of Pakistan and called for an end to the country’s promotion of terrorism in the region.”

The terror attack took place near the Nagin post at Bota Pathri, around seven kilometers from the main tourist resort of Gulmarg, when the convoy of Army vehicles were passing through the area. Bota Pathri is close to the Line of Control, and civilian movement in the area is restricted. The convoy was transporting personnel from a Rashtriya Rifles unit along with civilian porters to the Nagin post in the Afrawat range.

“A brief firefight took place between #IndianArmy and terrorists in general area Butapathri, #Baramullah. Details are being ascertained,” Army’s Chinar Corps said on X.

The terror strike came hours after Lt Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a Unified Headquarters (UHQ) meeting in Srinagar to review the security situation in light of back to back attacks in the past week. The meeting was attended by top Army, police, paramilitary and intelligence officers.

“The news of the martyrdom of our brave soldiers in the cowardly attack on an Army vehicle in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, is extremely saddening. Two porters also lost their lives in the attack. I pay my tribute …,” wrote Rahul Gandhi on X. RaGa earlier targeted the Narendra Modi government in the Centre and said, “Its policies have “completely failed to establish” security and peace in the region.

On Sunday, terrorists attacked a private infrastructure company’s workers’ camp in the Gagangir area of the Ganderbal district. In that dastardly attack carried out by two foreign terrorists, seven people were killed including six non-local workers and a local doctor. The attack was carried out on innocent, unarmed workers engaged in building a tunnel at Z-Morh on the Srinagar-Leh national highway.

The attack was condemned by everybody including Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, Union Minister for Roads and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and former Chief Ministers, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
