London: The Indian cricket team has been dealt a blow as experienced pacer Mohammed Shami underwent successful surgery on his left Achilles tendon, effectively sidelining him from the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) next month and potentially the T20 World Cup in June.
Shami, 33, who last represented India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia on November 19, underwent the procedure in London on Monday. Shami also shared the good news with fans and cricket lovers about his successful surgery.
“just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami posted on ‘X’
With a minimum recovery period of three months, Shami’s absence from the IPL, scheduled from March 22 to May 26, and the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA seems inevitable.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended well wishes from his official social media platform ‘X’ to Shami for a speedy recovery, lauding the pacer’s courage in facing this setback.
