Over 10 civilians injured in Srinagar grenade attack, Omar tweets “deeply disturbing”

Kashmir is coming back to its old self of terror and insurgency. National Conference leader Dr Farooq Abdullah had questioned if any agency was involved in carrying out the terror attacks to malign Omar government and churned huge controversy by saying, terrorists should not be killed but caught alive. Not even 24-hours has passed, a powerful grenade attack took place in the busy Lal Chowk in Srinagar. Being Sunday, many people were there during the blast. According to initial reports over seven people were reported injured but within minutes the number turned out to be 10, the number may increase. All of them received splinter injuries. The number of injured may rise.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on X said, “deeply disturbing” and said there can be no justification for targeting civilians. “The last few days have been dominated by headlines of attacks and encounters in parts of the valley. Today’s news of a grenade attack on innocent shoppers at the ‘Sunday market’ in Srinagar is deeply disturbing. There can be no justification for targeting innocent civilians. The security apparatus must do everything possible to end this spurt of attacks at the earliest so that people can go about their lives without any fear,”

The incident which the CM described as disturbing is a part of ongoing terror attacks taking place in the valley. Yet, Dr Abdullah says Pakistan cannot be blamed always.

The list of names who received injuries in the grenade explosion near Srinagar’s Tourist Reception Centre are civilians. There three minors:

10. Sumaiya Jan (45)

Injured have been removed to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital in Srinagar and are undergoing treatment.
