NEW DELHI: In a significant move to mark International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced a reduction of Rs 100 in cooking gas cylinder prices, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on households, particularly benefiting women.
The PM announcement came day after the government extended the subsidy of Rs 300 per LPG cylinder to poor women under the Ujjwala Yojana for the upcoming fiscal year starting from April1.
“On the Day of International Women Day, our government has decided to reduce Rs 100 on LPG cylinder prices. This move will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our ‘Nari Shakti’.
“By making cooking gas more affordable, we also aim to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment. This is in line with our commitment to empowering women and ensuring ‘Ease of Living’ for them,” The PM said on ‘X’

“It is just an election promise, First the government had decided to raise the prices of LPG cylinders from Rs 400 to Rs 1200 to cut the pocket of poor people during the last ten years. Now just before the Lok Sabha Election, The government started reducing prices to win,” Pawan Yadav said on ‘X’.
While NCP(SCP) MP Supriya Sule said terming it another scam, “I am not surprised at all. Look at the timing. The government has been sleeping for the last nine years and just woke up before the elections. Why didn’t they think of this move earlier? The price reduction could have been announced in the next six days,”
