Sunil Mittal Became The First Indian to Receive Honorary Knighthood from UK

London: In a historic recognition and to mark his biggest contributions to UK-India business relations, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, has been awarded an honorary knighthood by the United Kingdom. This accolade marks Mittal as the first Indian citizen to receive such an honour from the UK.

King Charles III conferred upon Mittal the title of Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE), citing his exemplary services in enhancing business ties between the UK and India.

“I am deeply humbled by this gracious recognition from His Majesty, King Charles. The UK and India share a long-standing history, and I am committed to further strengthening our economic and bilateral trade relationships.”Mittal said while expressing his gratitude.

Mittal emphasized the importance of collaboration and bilateral relationships between the two nations, stating, “UK has emerged as an attractive investment destination, and I am thankful to the Government of UK for their support and attention to the needs of businesses.”

This prestigious honour adds to Mittal’s impressive list of accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honours, bestowed upon him in 2007 for his outstanding contributions to society.

The honorary knighthood underscores Mittal’s significant role in fostering economic cooperation and underscores the growing partnership between the UK and India.
