The festival of Navaratri culminates with a message that evil or bad will have to face defeat and the traditional Ravana Dahan signifies this old saying, ‘good over evil’. As per tradition effigies of Ravana have been erected all over the country. It is believed that on the last day of Navaratri or Ramlila. Everybody is talking of the 211-feet tall effigy of Ravana this Dussehra. The tall effigy has been erected at Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 10. It has been termed as the tallest Ravana effigy of India.
The effigy has been made out of eco-friendly material. It took around four months to complete the effigy and more than 40 people were engaged in the creation of the tallest effigy of Ravana. It is said an estimated over s 30 lakhs were spent. However, many have raised the question why waste so much money on the effigy that would burn in a few minutes, the money could have been donated for some charity work instead.
Rajesh Gehlot, Chairman of the Sri Ram Lila Society committee, has sent an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders to attend the ceremony. “It would be an honour to have Prime Minister Narendra Modi among us,” said Gehlot.
Apart from putting up the attraction of the tallest effigy of Ravana, Sri Ram Lila Society committee, also organised a captivating Ram Lila performance for which the committee conducted auditions for over 400 artists from across Delhi NCR to ensure fresh talent is showcased in the grand Ramleela event.
The second tallest Ravana effigy has been erected in Chandigarh’s Sector 46 on October 12.
