UTTAR PRADESH: On the renaming of eight railway stations in Amethi district substituting them with local temples, saints, idols and freedom fighters proposed by the Uttar Pradesh government, The Union Ministry of Home Affairs issued a no-objection certificate, giving its approval.
The decision was initiated by the Bhartiya Janata Party Amethi, Member of Parliament, Smriti Irani, aiming at preserving the cultural identity and heritage of the region.
Irani expressed her satisfaction by saying that this decision would prove useful in preserving the cultural identity and heritage of Amethi.
“Virasat bhi, Vikas bhi. I am happy to inform you that it has been decided to change the names of eight railway stations in the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency,” Smriti Irani said.
The proposal was forwarded to the government on February 12, suggesting renaming Kaismpur halt as Jais City and renaming stations like Fusatganj as Tapeshwarnath Dham, Warisganj as Amar Shahid Bhale Sultan, Akbarganj as Maa Ahorwa Bhawani Dham, Nihalgarh as Maharaja Bijli Pasi, Misrauki as Maa Kalikan Dham, Bani as Swami Paramhans and Jais as Guru Gorakhnath Dham.
Ram Prasad Mishra, District President of BJP’s Amethi unit has been demanding for renaming of railway stations for a long time.
He said these stations’ proposal for renaming was considered because the predominantly population-like Kaismpur halt railway station was named after Kasimpur village which is distant from the station.
