Wayanad Bypolls 2024: Priyanka Gandhi vs Navya Haridas, over 64% voters turnout recorded

Bypolls were held in Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. The seat had fallen vacant after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also the member of parliament from Wayanad constituency vacated the seat. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is contesting elections against Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Navya Haridas. Wayanad recorded 64.71 per cent voting.

Priyanka Gandhi, who is making her election debut had travelled across the length and breadth of Wayanad. Before the elections, Gandhi, took rounds of the villages and interacted with locals. During her poll rallies she had stressed on the poor condition of farmers.

Voters arrived early in the morning at the 1,354 polling booths across Wayanad. As per the Election Commission (EC), over 14 lakh registered voters had cast their votes.

Wayanad constituency comprises of seven assembly segments – Mananthavady (ST), Sulthan Bathery (ST), and Kalpetta in Wayanad district; Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district; and Eranad, Nilambur, and Wandoor in Malappuram district.

There are 16 candidates in the fray for the seat with Congress-led UDF’s candidate and Priyanka Gandhi. CPI(M)-led LDF’s Sathyan Mokeri and BJP-led NDA’s Navya Haridas being the top contenders.
