New Delhi: A day after she filed a nomination for Rajya Sabha seat from Rajasthan, Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi informed in an emotional message to her constituency voters in Rae Bareli in Utter Pradesh that she will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections due to age and health issue. The 77-year-old Congress leader also hinted that of a possible entry of a member of her family from the Rae Bareli segment. Gandhi has represented the Rae Bareli seat since 2004. She in her message expressed gratitude for their unwavering support over the years to Rae Bareli people.
“Conserdering my health and ageing, I have decided not to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. While this means i won’t have the chance to serve you directly, please know that my unwavering dedication and support will forever remain with you,”
Our Familial bond with Bareli is time-honored and profound. since the inception of the first Lok Sabha elections post independence, you entrusted my father -in-law, Shri Feroze Gandhi, with victory from this constituency, sending him to Delhi as your representative.
Following him, you embraced my mother-in-law, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, as your own. This enduring legacy of affection and support has preserved through life’s challenges and trails, strengthening our unwavering faith in it,” Mrs. Gandhi expressed
There is a hot speculation that from the family seat, her daughter, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra could contest the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency this time.
Bhartiya Janta Party’s Spokesperson Sehzad Poonawala while taking a dig on congress questioned on formal “association” with Uttar Pradesh in future said that Sonia Gandhi (Congress) is scared of losing in Rae Bareli this time.
“After her filing nomination and later saying that she will not contest this time has confirmed that Gandhi family will no longer formally association with Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh nurtured the family politically. Having lost in Amethi, now the Gandhi’s family know in advance they are perhaps going to lose the seat in Rae Bareli also,”
Earlier last year in September, Mrs Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in national capital with fever-like symptoms. She was monitored by a team of doctors while later discharged after few days.
