Dangal actor Suhani Bhatnagar died of rare inflammatory disease Dermatomyositis: Family

Faridabad: The family of Suhani Bhatnagar, who played a role in the Aamir Khan-starrer wrestling drama ‘Dangal’, has revealed that she passed away yesterday due to complications from Dermatomyositis, a rare inflammatory disease.

The 19-year-old actor, who had been battling the disease for some time, passed away in the National capital. Dermatomyositis caused skin rash and muscle weakness, and she had been undergoing treatment for the condition for two months.

Suhani was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on February 7 after her health deteriorated. Expressing condolences, Aamir Khan’s production house (AKPPL) paid tribute to her on social media, acknowledging her talent and integral role in ‘Dangal’.

“Dangal” director Nitesh Tiwari also expressed shock and sorrow over Suhani’s passing, describing her as a joyful and vibrant individual.

According to her mother, Puja Bhatnagar, Suhani was diagnosed with the disease only ten days before her passing, although symptoms had manifested two months earlier with red blots on her hands. Despite treatment in various hospitals, her condition worsened, leading to her admission to AIIMS.

Her lungs were reportedly damaged by infection and fluid accumulation, with the family noting the rarity of the disease and the slim chances of survival. Suhani stayed with her family in Faridabad, Haryana. Her role in ‘Dangal’ as Babita, one of Mahavir Phogat’s daughters, earned her recognition, although she later took a hiatus from acting to focus on her studies.
