Pakistan: Ameer Balaj Tipu, a well-known figure dubbed as the “lord of the criminal underworld” in Lahore, Pakistan, was fatally shot by an assailant during a wedding ceremony in the Chung area on Sunday in what appears to be a targeted killing.
The incident unfolded as Tipu, the son of Arif Ameer, attended a wedding ceremony with his associates in a residential society. An armed attacker, meticulously planning his move, opened fire on Tipu, disguising the assault as a selfie opportunity near the stage during the event’s conclusion.
In the chaos that ensued, three of Tipu’s associates sustained injuries while attempting to shield him, seeking cover behind parked vehicles. The assailant was also killed in the crossfire. During a shootout, a stampede occurred as visitors were seen running outside to save themselves.
“All four wounded individuals were swiftly transported to the nearby Jinnah Hospital, where Tipu succumbed to his injuries. He sustained four gunshot wounds to his chest, resulting in fatal bleeding,” stated a Senior Police Officer leading the investigation.
Tipu’s history of hostility with other gang members suggests that his murder may be the outcome of a longstanding feud. While investigating all potential angles, authorities are inclined to believe it was a case of personal enmity, ” he said.
Tipu’s father met a similar fate in 2010, being shot dead in the parking lot of Allama Iqbal airport upon returning from Dubai, employing a comparable modus operandi.
In a recent development, Tipu had switched allegiance from PTI to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) political party and was engaged in a transport network business.
