PM Modi holds bilateral talks with President Xi, China ends border stand-off

The bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded on a happy note and PM Modi informed that his meeting has been able to break the ice on various issues including the India-China relation following a consensus on patrolling arrangement along the Line of Actual Control that had faced multiple hiccups over the last few years. The meeting between the two statesmen took place after five years after the 2020 Galwan clash. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a Press meet at Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), had said that the meeting was expected to address a few crucial issues including the security agenda.

The bilateral meeting took place on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. Some of the very crucial issues were discussed especially security issues at the Indo-China border. The agreement on patrolling along the LAC was the outcome of several rounds of diplomatic and military talks between India and China.

Welcoming the recent agreement for complete disengagement and resolution of issues that arose in 2020 in the India-China border areas, Prime Minister Modi underscored the importance of properly handling differences and disputes and not allowing them to disturb peace and tranquility. The two leaders agreed that the Special Representatives on the India-China boundary question will meet at an early date to oversee the management of peace & tranquility in border areas and to explore a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary question. The relevant dialogue mechanisms at the level of Foreign Ministers and other officials will also be utilized to stabilize and rebuild bilateral relations.

The two leaders affirmed that stable, predictable, and amicable bilateral relations between India and China, as two neighbors and the two largest nations on earth, will have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity. It will also contribute to a multi-polar Asia and a multi-polar world. The leaders underlined the need to progress bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, enhance strategic communication and explore cooperation to address developmental challenges.

Addressing President Xi, Prime Minister Naredra Modi expressed satisfaction over the talks with Chinese President Xi. Indian Prime Minister said, “Met President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Kazan BRICS Summit. India-China relations are important for the people of our countries, and for regional and global peace and stability. Mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity will guide bilateral relations.”
