Mumbai: Legendary singer and renowned Ghazal maestro, Pankaj Udhas who mesmerized audiences with unforgettable hits like ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai’ and ‘Aur Aahista,’ passed away after battling a prolonged illness in Mumbai.
The family of the 72-year-old maestro confirmed the heartbreaking news of his passing at Breach Candy Hospital at 11 am.
After the announcement of his demise, tributes flooded on social media platforms, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressing their condolences.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked, “Pankaj Udhas’ Ghazals spoke directly to the soul.
“We mourn the loss of Pankaj Udhas ji, whose singing conveyed a range of emotions and whose Ghazals spoke directly to the soul. He was a beacon of Indian music, whose melodies transcended generations. I recall my various interactions with him over the years. His departure leaves a void in the music world that can never be filled. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
Home Minister Amit Shah while offering his condolences said, “Pankaj Udhas’s songs touched the hearts of people of all ages, classes, and he will live among us through his songs and ghazals.”
