Gemini's error on PM Modi remarks

California: Couple of days after Google faced criticism over the controversial response generated by its artificial intelligence tool, Gemini, to a question on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he was referred to as “Fascist.” In response to the backlash, Google said on Saturday clarifying that it has swiftly taken action to address the issue. The company acknowledged that Gemini “may not always be reliable” when responding to certain prompts related to current events and political topics.

The backlash happened when a used posted screenshot of Gemini shocking and negative responses against PM Modi on social media plaltform ‘X’ which triggered a bombardment of threads of mix reactions from millions of users.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who oversees IT and Electronics, had raised concerns about Gemini’s response, stating that it violated IT rules and various criminal provisions. Chandrasekhar pointed out that Gemini provided a biased response to the question about Modi, while it offered no clear answer when similar queries were made about former US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In an email statement, a Google spokesperson said, “Gemini is designed as a tool for creativity and productivity, but it may encounter challenges when responding to prompts about current events and political issues or evolving news. It may not always be reliable.

The spokesperson emphasized that Google is continuously working to improve Gemini’s accuracy and reliability.

Chandrasekhar, in his social media post, said it is the violations of Rule 3(1)(b) of the Intermediary Rules and other criminal code provisions. He indicated that further action may be taken against Google and the Ministry of Electronics and IT regarding the matter.
