UP Police Chase for ‘Reckless Driver’ Ends in Dramatic Fast and Furious-style Escape

Ghaziabad: In an incident resembling a scene from a ‘Fast and Furious’ movie, an errant driver evaded Uttar Pradesh police by driving his car backwards for nearly two kilometres, with officers in police vehicle pursuit attempting to intercept him head-on. Despite their efforts, the chase ended without apprehension.

The incident, captured by motorists and shared on social media, sparked criticism of the Uttar Pradesh Police’s handling of the situation. Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav expressed concern over the image of law enforcement and questioned the effectiveness of their efforts.

Yadav took to ‘X’ to voice his concerns, questioning the dynamics between lawbreakers and law enforcers in Uttar Pradesh. He emphasized the need for police to fulfill their duty and apprehend offenders, rather than engaging in futile pursuits resembling a video game.

Accompanying his remarks was a 0.40-second video clip of the incident, drawing parallels to the action-packed scenes of Hollywood’s ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise.

The incident unfolded when a police team attempted to stop a Hyundai i-20 car driving recklessly on an elevated Rajnagar Extension road. Instead of complying, the driver reversed the vehicle, prompting a two-kilometre chase. Concerned about potential collisions in the busy traffic, the police eventually halted their pursuit, allowing the driver to escape.

Several police teams set up to probe are now reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprit to nab him.
