Vidya Balan files case against impersonator for conning people with fake jobs in Bollywood

Mumbai: Police has initiated a probe in a case of impersonation and fraudulent activities involving Bollywood actress Vidya Balan creating her fake accounts on social media. The actress lodged a complaint with the Khar Police after discovering that an unknown individual had created fake social media accounts in her name, deceiving people with false job offers.

Acting on the actress’s complaint, the Khar Police registered a case against an unknown man under the provisions of the Information Technology Act. The Cyber Cell is actively involved in the investigation, working towards apprehending the perpetrator,” said a senior police official.

The imposter, posing as Vidya Balan, targeted individuals within the Bollywood industry, promising employment opportunities. Balan, aged 45, reported the incident to the police on January 20, revealing that the perpetrator last month had created a fraudulent Instagram account under the handle ‘Vidya.balan.pvt,’ using her name and images. The fraudster then proceeded to make false job offers through the fake account.

The actress became aware of the situation when the imposter contacted one of her associates via WhatsApp, claiming to discuss potential work opportunities in Bollywood. Balan promptly clarified that neither the phone number nor the email address ‘vidyabalanspeaks@gmail.com‘ belonged to her.

In light of these events, Balan’s manager, Aditi Sandhu, submitted a formal complaint to the police.
